Howard Memorial Hospital, your surgery location
Howard Memorial Hospital was established in 1928, after years of local fund-raising and a generous donation from Charles Howard, Seabiscuit's owner. Now, almost 90 years later, our newly constructed hospital has opened it's doors to the community once again. Leveraging the PlaneTree model, Howard Memorial focuses on patient-centered care. With a patient pharmacy, private recovery rooms, and a state-of-the-art surgical center, patients are more comfortable than ever before, and with the same small town family taking care of them.
Why “Orthopaedic” and not “Orthopedic”?
The French physician and writer Nicolas Andry is recognized for combining the Latin form of “straight”and “child”, leading to the term “orthopaedia.” This term has endured because Andry communicated this neologism visually in the form of the crooked tree adhered to the straight post, creating the symbol of orthopaedics that has been in use since 1741.
